* NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines at http://www.nahbgreen.org

* National Green Building Standard (developed with the International Code Council and the American National Standards Institute), also at http://www.nahbgreen.org/

* Summary of Green Building Programs (click on http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy02osti/32390.pdf to access this document)

This July 2002 study (a 44-page PDF file) assesses differences and similarities among 26 programs under which over 18,000 homes have been built. Programs include elements of rating and certification and incentive systems, and education and recognition programs. Mandatory building requirements and options checklists are presented in easy-to-read tables, along with web sites and contact people. See also http://www.smartcommunities.ncat.org/buildings/gbprogrm.shtml and http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/greenbuilding/Design/Guidelines.htm for an annotated list of green building programs.

* Guide to Developing Green Builder Programs. (click on ) Describes, in 189 pages, program development and green building techniques. Discusses issues, costs, technologies, availability, practicality and additional references for everything from framing materials to xeriscaping.
* See also the 17-page "Developing Green Building Programs: A Step-By-Step Guide for Local Governments" from Global Green, at http://www.globalgreen.org/docs/publication-71-1.pdf
* See also the "State and Local Government Tool Kit" (U.S. Green Building Council, 2002),a 64-page guide for local governments who want to develop a green building program and policy, and other green building resources for local governments and other public entities, at http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1780, .
* See also Municipal Green Building Policies: Strategies for Transforming Building Practices in the Private Sector (Environmental Law Institute, 2008, 122 pages) which presents 30 policies organized under (1) establishing mandatory green building criteria, (2) expediting review for green buildings, and (3) offering direct financial incentives for green building.

NAHB also holds an annual National Green Building Conference, typically held in the Spring. For more information on this conference, go to http://www.nahb.org/default.aspx and then click on "Education and Events."

Targeted to the mainstream residential building industry and billed as the only national conference that focuses on residential design, development, marketing, remodeling, building, and financing of homes that are environmentally sensible.
