Summary: Founded in April 2007, this volunteer citizens group brings together people and organizations concerned with environmental sustainability.
Content: Since forming, some of the things the groups has worked on are:

* Reducing auto traffic by promoting carpooling, biking, walking & bus riding.
* Increasing recycling in Austin from the current level of 45%.
* Promoting industrial and citizen recycling.
* Studying how other cities are dealing with environmental issues.
* Providing an educational booth at the 2007 Mower County Fair.

ACES has Five Functional Areas:
- Reduction of CO2 gases.
- City/County Relations
- Legislation
- Conservation
- Public Education

Future Projects:
~ 2008 RE-fest, a day-long celebration of clean energy and green living, to be held in Austin on September 20th.
~ Require tree-for-tree replacement and promote tree planting in asphalt parking lots.
~ Encourage new buildings to be green buildings which use LEED standards.
~ Encourage the use of more solar panels.
~ Promote small wind power.
~ Encourage local car dealers to make green cars more available.
~ Have essay contest on environmental issues with cash prizes for students.
~ Have contest for Most Environmentally Friendly Home.
