In 2007 Minneapolis awarded funding to 25 citizen groups that motivated citizens to take immediate actions and commitments to reduce their climate change impacts. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, additional micro climate change grants were awarded.
One result of these grants is additional Minneapolis residents signing up for the Minnesota Energy Challenge (http://www.mnenergychallenge.org). At the end of 2007, the Minnesota Energy Challenge had more than 2,500 Minneapolis businesses and residents pledge to save $1.4 million in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by 20 million pounds annually (only 725 Minneapolis individuals signed up in 2006).
See http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/sustainability/ClimateChangeMicroGrant2007.asp for a description of the 2007 grants.
