Content: The Green Book, published online by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) in Washington, D.C. [and annually in hard copy prior to 2004], offers "Green Score" rankings (on a scale of 10 to 57) based on a vehicle's air pollution health costs, global warming pollution, fuel efficiency and other specifications.

Viewable for free is a "Greenest Vehicles of [a given year]"] section on the web site which features the greenest models in each vehicle class and includes listings for electric and other alternative fuel vehicles in addition to gasoline and diesel vehicles. (There is also a "Meanest Vehicles" section.) Additional information summarized on the website includes tips on keeping your vehicle running cleanly and efficiently ( http://www.greenercars.org/drivinggreen.html ) and information on the environmental impacts of vehicles including global warming, and the health effects of vehicle pollution.

30 days of on-line access is available for $8.95, with and annual subscription available for $19.95. The web site summarizes the methodology behind the ranking system.

A similar guide is available free at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ where you can find and compare new cars and trucks using data on fuel economy.
