Case Study: Model Ordinances for Sustainable DevelopmentMinnesota Statutes, Section 4A.07(3) directed Minnesota Planning to prepare a model ordinance in consultation with appropriate parties to guide sustainable development. To help meet this mandate, Minnesota Planning engaged a wide range of local and state interests in discussions about possible ordinance topics and contracted with Biko Associates to develop model ordinances on selected topics. From Policy to Reality: Model Ordinances for Sustainable Development is the result of these efforts. It is a first step in pursuit of the goal of creating a package of model ordinances that Minnesota communities can use in charting their futures. A second edition of this document is intended to follow once the ideas have been tested by communities that are ready to apply the concepts of sustainable development. This guide offers tools to help make the best choices today for the health of the community tomorrow. Communities can adapt these model ordinances to their own special circumstances as part of a citizen-based community planning process. The guide includes model ordinances addressing: Citizen participation Growth management Managing community resources Neighborhood design Infrastructure Resource-efficient buildings Economic development To view this document online, visit: http://server.admin.state.mn.us/resource.html?Id=1927
